Mai Nguyen wanted
to bring the unique flavors of Vietnamese cuisine to New Orleans. As the
oldest daughter of eleven children, Mai enjoyed cooking for her siblings.
This inspiration and motivation are what convinced Mai to turn her passion
for cooking into a dream of opening a restaurant. Mai’s dream became a
reality in November 2001 when she left her position as department manager at
Spectrum Control Technologies and opened her Vietnamese restaurant.
Mai traveled throughout
Vietnam collecting numerous ideas. She took these ideas and developed a menu
consisting of unique and authentic dishes from the three main regions of
Vietnam: Northern, Central, and Southern Vietnam. It was then that Ba Mien,
which means “Three Region,” was born.
